Hey hi!!! It’s time for our July Movie date! So my first June Movie Date post was such a success I’ll definitely be keeping these going!
PS. Say hi to Calypso's bestie Michael Angelo AKA Mikey AKA Custard. The fattest, fluffiest, friendliest black cat you'll ever meet (and quite photogenic). His brother Leonardo AKA Leo AKA Reaper (Yes Reaper, if you're a small lizard you'd best watch yourself) not so much 😅 but we sure love him 😻. They both live up in Anacortes with my parents. Whenever we go up there these days, I usually bring my screaming cat in the car so she can hang with Mikey instead of be alone back at home. It's pretty rare with cats that aren't raised together to get along so I just love seeing them get all snuggly on the couch!
Anyhoo, back to the movies.
I do have to say, immediately after posting the last movie date, my sister called me and was quite hilariously perturbed at one of my reviews. Specifically, “Hi Ab! LOVE your photos on your post, but seriously though you LIKED ANNIHILATION?!?”. We had a slight disagreement on that film 🤣🤣🤣. I was informed it’s actually a trilogy of books that was apparently smooshed into one movie and not smooshed well! Since I hadn’t read the books I thought the movie was fascinating. Zoë read all of them and was not impressed with the onscreen version to say the least 😬.
Point being, you may find you completely disagree with what I felt about a movie and I would absolutely LOVE to hear your thoughts! If Zoë hadn’t called to tell me her opinion, I would’ve never known Annihilation was a book trilogy! So please please please, any thoughts you have on the movies I talk about here I would love to hear about in the comments.
Now before we get started, we need a beverage for this July movie date. It’s SO hot out I think we’ll go with a...
Might as well feel like we're in Hawaii in this heat right??
Let's go to the Movies!
Watched in Theaters - Incredibles 2
So Dan went out of town for a weekend this month to do some more camping and what did I do? Scooched on over to the movie theater and saw Incredibles 2 😎. I SO enjoyed it! Is it better than the first one? I honestly couldn’t say. They’re different movies and I love them both. Incredibles 2 has some serious girl power going on and I LOVE it. The plot was interesting with a ton of laughs, great characters that you genuinely care about, and of course, fantastic animation 👍🏻. (Photo Via Pinterest)
Rented for the Homestead - Fundamentals of Caring
This movie has been hanging out on my netflix suggestions for a few months now and I always just skipped right past it. This past weekend I finally watched the preview for it and was honestly shocked I hadn’t seen it yet. It looked hilarious! We immediately turned it on and we were not disappointed. I loved it, and laughed the whole way through. It stars Paul Rudd as Ben, who’s going through a rough family situation, that takes a job as a care taker for Trevor, a teenager with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. They go on a road trip to see a couple of those “the world’s biggest” somethings and hilarity ensues, but with absolute sincerity. Just an awesome feel good movie. Honestly, You really can’t go wrong with Paul Rudd, he’s one of my faves! (Photo Via Pinterest)
Excited to See - Ant-Man and the Wasp
Speaking of Paul Rudd, I can’t wait to see Ant Man and the Wasp!!! I thought Ant Man was hysterical, there was even a gigantic Thomas the Train Engine that fell out of window - how could that not be hilarious?? So I have high hopes for the sequel, and a little laughter in the marvel universe is sorely needed after that Avengers Infinity War situation amiright? Hopefully I'll head on over to catch this one in theaters this weekend and let you know what I think in our August Movie Date! (Photo Via Pinterest)
Out of the Kitchen
See this picture? The past weekend was mostly just that. Lazy mornings in my pjs, some serious morning hair, and a chai tea latte. A sorely needed break from everything! Dan went out of town to visit a friend and hung out in Coeur d'Alene and I thoroughly took advantage. I did some serious shopping at University Village and even got to enjoy some dumplings at Dim Tai Fung! The rest of the weekend was honestly spent binging Travelers on Netflix, which was so enjoyable and totally worth the "too much tv" headache. Some Taylor Swift music videos also snuck in there I can't lie 😎.
Other than that, I actually did manage to do some CAMPING this month (I know right?? Round of applause for me pleasekthanks). Dan and I went down to Hording's Hideout, an enormous property with three disc golf courses, a pond, and a creek about half an hour west of Portland (PORTLAND, I drove PAST Portland to go camping, you should be proud of me). Now, did you read that right? Disc golf? Yes, yes you did read that right. It's literally golf with a disc (not a frisbee even though they look the same) where you throw several different types of discs at a post and try to get it to land in it in as few throws as possible. Basically like trying to get the golf ball to the hole in as few strokes as possible.
So let me just clear something up real quick: I don't play disc golf. Dan loves it. I rarely camp. Dan loves it. But honestly, it was actually fun getting out in nature; I hiked to the top of the disc course (it was a hike too, up a legit incline in a forest) and heard a hawk calling out several times nearby (AH-mazing), hung out by the pond with a book, and ate all the carne asada cooked over a propane stove because fire season. I even made the weirdest, most delicious concoction of an unbaked biscuit/croissant that you roll onto on a sharpened stick and cook over a flame. When it's done you spread it with butter and roll it around in cinnamon sugar. Sounds super bizarre I know but SO delicious!
TBH though, I'll probably skip the camping on the disc golf course next time. Maybe Mt. St Helens, or the Olympic National Park by a lake?? Awesome, I'll meet you there. I'll bring the biscuits, you bring the cinnamon sugar. Done and done!
Food Focus
It's too hot for anything but salads. Here are some of my faves that I've been digging into for the past month!
Steak Blue Cheese Avocado Salad
Favorite Kitchen Item of the Month
Oh without a doubt, it's my slow cooker. Set it and forget it! You can still cook without heating up your kitchen, and it's just one pot so easy peezy clean up! Here's a few of my favorite slow cooker dishes for the summertime:
Spicy Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Sandwich
Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas Tacos
That's a wrap for our July Movie Date. Remember I would love hear from you! Have you seen any movies this month? No spoilers please! Maybe you agree more with my sister than with one of my quick reviews 😂?
Most importantly, what do you want to hear about? Kitchen questions? Seattle queries? What's my favorite movie? (Hint: It's a famous trilogy, and yes I consider one longggg film, no one's guessed it yet!). Ask away in the comments below!
