It's October!!! Happy Halloween month 🎃! Starting off strong with Halloween witches brew black sangria.
No Halloween is complete without a themed beverage, and this year it was time for a black one. Sangria is so easy and simple to make, this black sangria even easier. To give it that deep color, smash up blackberries to release their juices and use a dark wine as the base (I used Apothic Dark). Then just mix it with black grapes, more blackberries, and some black sliced plums. Oh and of course a little cranberry juice, sprite for the bubbles, and a touch of brandy. Witches brew is in business!
So remember when I made that greek autumn cheese board? Well, I made this the same day at my parents house and trying to get a photo of it was ridiculous. A house I wasn't used to shooting in, light I couldn't figure out, and literally a BLACK drink. No matter what I did, the pictures came out blurry. As a type A perfectionist this was my nightmare. Thank the lord of my parents and their friends! I kept refusing all of their offers to help until I was about to LOSE it. All over a simple (albeit delicious) black beverage photo shoot. They all came to my rescue holding pitchers and glasses for me to get some different photos, and even busted out a tripod!
After we finally got the photos, we had sangria all afternoon (multiple pitchers were made) and there is honestly no better way to spend a lazy Friday afternoon.
SO! The moral of the story is make Halloween witches brew black sangria because you need it in your life, parents and friends are amazing, autumn is the best, and don't be afraid to ask for help. It might just save your Friday afternoon, at the very least 😉.

Black sanding sugar, so fun!

Hi! For the cranberry juice is the pure 100% cranberry juice or cranberry juice cocktail?
Aberdeen says
Pure 100% cranberry juice 😁

I have blackberry brandy at home. Do you think that would work instead of regular (and the add in fresh black berries as well.)

This cocktail looks epic ! The serving pitcher is beautiful too ... also Anthropologie ?
Where did the pretty gold stars in the drink come from ?
Thank you for my Halloween party drink idea!

The recipe looks great, but I can’t find Apothic Dark wine in New Zealand (it looks like it was a limited edition). Is there a reason for specifying that particular wine (colour maybe), and what type of wine would you recommend substituting it with?
Serai says
I would go with a dark dessert wine like blackberry or marionberry, or perhaps a good port. Taste it before using, and if you find it's too sweet, dilute it with a drier red wine, maybe a Pinot Noir or merlot. You can also add a dark fruit juice like blackberry. The point is the color, so you can experiment as you please. Sangria is a very forgiving drink! 🙂
