Welp, here it goes. First off, I'm acutely aware that this is a food blog. However, I know quite a few of you have noticed my absence over the past few months. So here's what's up:
The hubby and I are expecting 🤰🏼! We're 18 weeks along, and we refer to the little babes as Cupcake.
So! Like I said, I'm "fine" but wowwwwww growing a human is hard. The first trimester was really, really rough. Mostly just hung out in bed slash on the couch with "morning" sickness 24/7. Literally all day, all night, every day and night. I straight up didn't leave the house for about 6 weeks.
6. Weeks. I started to feel better around week 14, 15ish? Basically around the start of the second trimester, which is when I was able to pop up with a mint chocolate chip ice cream post 😆.
But, it's still really hard. I desperately miss working. Even though I'll feel better in one way, I get a new symptom and feel worse in a different way. The constant nausea has abated but it's still there, the exhaustion is still there...all the things.
The major issue I seem to be having is that, well, I work in food. Thinking up and creating recipes, testing recipes, even photographing them and just looking at the photos later is absolutely horrendous when you're stomach revolts at the mere thought. Thankfully, I'm able to eat and get the right amount of nutrition but the creative space in my head for food is completely unaccessible at this moment 🥺. Ergo, I'm here, I'm okay, just still kind of on "growing a baby" leave.
Now after that long "everything feels terrible" rant, I would also like to say we are BEYOND excited and can't wait to meet our little babes! Cupcake is doing great, growing well with a strong heartbeat and fluttery movements.
So in the meantime, I'm around, shopping for baby clothes, feeling like crap but thrilled and excited at the same time. I WILL return with recipes, it's just taking quite a bit longer than anticipated. Thank you for all your kind words, e-mails and comments. They have not gone unnoticed! You have no idea how thankful I am for you, knowing when I can finally get back to work I have this blog waiting for me 🥰. Who knew morning sickness could be all day and continue past the first trimester? 🤷🏼♀️ Not me but what can you do?
In any case, our little Cupcake is worth it 👶🏻.

I had the exact same type of pregnancy many years ago. Got through the first three months and then just floated along, feeling nausea at any given moment. I would be totally fine one minute and then running to the nearest toilet the next. I never felt 100% during my entire pregnancy but did not feel lousy either - just meh! When that little cupcake pops out, though, you seriously do forget all of that. Well, you don't forget it, but you instantly feel better....except maybe the tired part because, you know, babies do not generally sleep long hours in those early few weeks. It is a wonderful journey, and the joy you feel when you hold that sweet "cupcake" in your arms is just about the best feeling in the world. Congratulations!!

Congratulations. Food can wait. Baby growing is hard enough work. We look forward to recipes later when you can stomach them. We will all be here.

So happy for you and hubby! My daughter is pregnant and feels just like you. Hang in there Aberdeen, God is with you.

Many years ago my husband was in the Air Force and was transferred from Biloxi, Miss. to Tacoma, Wash. We came home to Pa. to visit family, then west visiting his family and sight-seeing all the way. We drove close to 6,000 miles and all I saw was the inside of a brown paper bag. I feel your pain! Congratulations.

We are fine out here, don't worry. Many of us have been through this. Very happy for you. As an older lady now looking back, there has been nothing we did that was as wonderful as having a family. The best years. Congrats to you both.

This is such wonderful news. Congratulations to you both!

I think it's time for some baby shower baking ideas on the blog! 🙂
