Step up your Halloween dessert with Hocus Pocus themed brownies. Decorated in the spirit of Winifred Sanderson's Spell book, these are sure to be a hit for the holiday!

  1. Frost brownies with as much buttercream frosting as desired. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes or 15 minutes in the freezer before decorating.
  2. Once frosted brownies are chilled, cut them into 12 even squares.
  3. Pour black candy melts into a microwavable safe bowl and microwave on high in 20 second intervals, stirring between each interval until melted. Pour into a piping bag or into a small Ziploc bag. If using a Ziploc, cut a small corner off the bag.
  4. Pipe a small dot of the candy melts onto each brownie and place one large candy eye on top.
  5. Still using the candy melts, pipe a single line on the left side of the brownies for the spine of the spell book. Then pipe a squiggly line next to it for the "snake".
  6. Pipe the "curled snakes" one the right corners of the brownies (I just piped overlapping squiggles).
  7. Now using the black gel icing, pipe a border around the candy eyes for the book's "eye socket lock".
  8. Still using the black gel icing, pipe squiggly lines in the middle of the brownies for the patched together surface of the book. Sprinkle them with black and purple sanding sugar for the "stitches".
  9. Take an ENORMOUS bite and enjoy!

Remember to work quickly with the candy melts as they harden up with time!

This recipe includes the prep and cook times for making and frosting the brownies.
