When I first started my food blog, I went the “hosted” route, because basically I had no idea what I was doing and having everything already set up and done for me seemed to be the way to go. However, I quickly discovered, that even though everything was done for me, this left me with very little control over my blog. Even after a year, it was still more of a hobby than anything and I had very little traffic, no engagement other than a few close friends and family members, and absolutely no understanding of how to monetize my site.
Well, I did some digging, and very quickly discovered that if you want to truly become a blogger and make money off of your hard earned content, a self-hosted site is the way to go. However, I had absolutely no idea how to go about this, and quite frankly to this day still need help more frequently than I’d care to admit. At the time, I was so lost. Just so overwhelmed. I didn’t know how to set up a self hosted site, what self hosting service to use, didn’t know how to code (html? say what??)…It was a nightmare. Luckily, I’d already been following Lindsay and Bjork of the wildly successful Pinch of Yum food blog and quickly discovered their amazing website, Food Blogger Pro.
